Study of diversity and seasonal abundance of arthropods in two agroecosystems and a biological patch of native forest in Mendoza, Argentina.
Abstract
Arthropods are key components of terrestrial ecosystems, providing essential ecosystem services such as pollination and biological pest control. However, agricultural intensification has impacted on arthropod diversity. The present research aims to quantify changes in the diversity and composition of arthropod communities based on seasonality and habitat type. Weekly monitoring was carried out for each season of the year in a vineyard, an olive grove and a patch of native forest. Subsequently, to evaluate changes in diversity, alpha and beta components were calculated using the Shannon-Wiener, Jaccard and Pielou indices. The results showed that the sites under study were different in arthropod composition in terms of diversity, possibly related to the variation in vegetation structure and soil composition of each site, being different in terms of abundance. Regarding seasonality, changes in richness and abundance were recorded throughout the year, with a greater number of captured arthropods as well as a greater number of morphospecies during the summer and autumn seasons.
